Bandi alleges assault, demands suspension of Siddipet top cop

He locked himself in his house at Karimnagar to protest his arrest and alleged assault.

BJP state president and Karimnagar MP Bandi Sanjay Kumar on Monday night locked himself in his house at Karimnagar to protest his arrest and alleged assault earlier in the day by the Siddipet police.

Sanjay was rushing to Siddipet after police seized cash from the house of the party’s Dubbak byelection representative when he was arrested on the outskirts by the Siddipet police.

Sanjay announced that his protest would continue till Siddipet police commissioner Joel Davis was suspended for their brutal behaviour. He alleged that the police had dragged him into a van forcibly due to which he sustained injuries.

Sanjay said that he would file a complaint against police commissioner Davis with the Lok Sabha Speaker as the official ignored his privilege as an MP.
Sanjay also condemned the raid by the police on the residences of the BJP’s Dubbak candidate M. Raghunandan Rao’s relatives in Siddipet and termed it “undemocratic”. The state BJP chief said that the searches were meant to intimidate the party candidate and the workers in view of fast approaching byelection. Sanjay said that the searches are against the code of conduct.
Union minister of state for home G. Kishan Reddy termed the police action against Sanjay as a “brutal assault” and “unjustifiable”.

He called it an “undemocratic and disgraceful act” by the administration. Meanwhile Union home ministry Amit Shah and BJP president J.P. Nadda called Sanjay over the phone and enquired about his arrest and his condition.
