Kerala: Cops feel fugitive lady doctor is dead
KANNUR: The police and relatives of Dr Omana, a native of Payyannur who has been absconding since 2001 while facing trial in a murder case, suspect that the body of a woman found on the premises of a building in Malaysia recently is that of her. The body of the woman suspected to have fallen from the top of a building was found at Subang Jaya, a suburban city in Klang Valley, to the west of Kuala Lumpur. Though there were reports that the woman was a Keralite, none came out with her details. The Indian High Commission in Malaysia had given advertisements in newspapers asking readers who know details of the woman to contact the High commission.
Taliparamba DySP K.V. Venugopal told DC that the relatives, when approached with the photograph, expressed the doubt that it has many similarities with that of their kin. Omana was charged with murdering Muraleedharan, a contractor from Payyannur, and cutting his body into pieces in a lodge in Ooty in 1996. She was caught trying to dump the suitcase with body parts in a forest area. She went missing after being released on bail since 2001. Mr Venugopal said the woman escaped to Malaysia with a fake passport while trial was on at a court in Ooty. “She contacted relatives from Malaysia last in 2009,” he said. “So it is a possibility that there is a woman without relatives and friends in Malaysia while we have a missing woman who had secretively migrated there with fake passports.”
