Bhadrakali Lakefront in Warangal finally opens

Development of the 1.1-km-long Bhadrakali bund had been taken up in 2016 under Heritage City Development and Augmentation Yojana scheme

WARANGAL: The much-awaited Bhadrakali lakefront promenade has finally been thrown open to public on Sunday amid cultural and musical celebrations.

Development of the 1.1-km-long Bhadrakali bund had been taken up in 2016 under Heritage City Development and Augmentation Yojana (HRIDAY) scheme. Even though it got delayed by a couple of years, the final work has turned out quite mesmerising for citizens.

Ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM)-made walking track, play zone and other elements make the lakefront stand out. Citizens can spend quality time walking along the bund, basking in the beauty of serene Bhadrakali Lake with historic Bhadrakali Temple in the backdrop. Green colonnades, open-air gym, playing area and integrated landscape lighting add to the ambience.

The bund has great architectural elements of Kakatiya rulers in the form of gateways, shelters and sculptural focal points, each aimed at achieving cultural enrichment. The old town gateways used as entrance portals add to the beauty. Green colonnades, integrated floor lighting, ghats with multi-level seating, a performance plaza, open-air gym and several such attractions are part of the promenade.

Cultural programmes on the theme of Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav were also organised. Panchayat raj minister Errabelli Dayakar Rao, chief whip Dasyam Vinay Bhaskar and GWMC commissioner Pravinya were among those present.
