Bring fuel prices under GST, says Ramesh Chennithala
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala on Tuesday accused both the state and Union governments of pickpocketing the people of Kerala by keeping fuel prices exorbitantly high. Inaugurating the dharna at Cantonment Road near Secretariat demanding petrol and diesel prices be brought under GST, he alleged both parties had been looting the people. He lamented that due to inflation people are facing a difficult time as, despite the crude oil price coming down, the petroleum products prices were shooting up.
"These two governments are actually helping oil companies to gain more money by looting the general public. It should be recalled that both the Prime Minister and his finance minister have agreed that there is already an economic recession in the country," he said. He reminded that the previous UDF government had given up additional sales tax revenue when the petrol and diesel became costlier to keep prices down. He said it was unfortunate that the LDF government had not taken any efforts to do a similar action.
