Two motorbike-borne youths washed away in Nizamabad
Nizamabad: Floods have claimed the lives of seven persons in Nizamabad district, where around 2,000 persons were shifted to 10 rehabilitation centres. Officials said 530 houses were completely damaged and 3,976 houses partially damaged.
Two youths who were washed away in floods were identified on Monday as Ranjith Kumar, 21, and Vishnuvardhan Reddy, 22, of Sadashivanagar. Their bodies along with their motorbike were found in Tirminpally water tank in Sadashivanagar mandal. Police retrieved the bodies and shifted them for post-mortem to the government area hospital in Kamareddy.
It is believed that the boys were washed away on Saturday night, while they were returning home from Giddi village. Unable to assess the flood flow on Ramareddy-Sadashivanagar road, the youths along with their motorbike were washed away. Yellareddy MLA E.Ravinder Reddy condoled the family members and handed over Rs 10,000 each as financial aid.
According to primary reports, crops like paddy, soyabean and others were damaged in 28,000 hectares. Floodgates on the Sriramsagar and Nizamsagar projects remained open on Monday and released water into the Godavari and Manjira.
The Nizamsagar main canal was breached at Arad village in Makloor mandal on Monday. Agriculture minister Pocharam Srinivas Reddy and Armoor MLA A. Jeevan Reddy visited the crop damaged fields in Makloor mandal.
On the other hand, 248 kms R&B roads, 47 kms panchayat raj roads and 32 culverts were damaged. 13 transformers, 116 electrical poles were damaged.
Revenue and agriculture officials were pressed into service to enumerate the flood losses in the district. Six water tanks were breached and 23 tanks damaged in the district so far.
