KOCHI: The three-member medical panel headed by district medical officer (DMO) Dr N.K. Kuttappan and comprising forensic surgeon of Alappuzha Medical College Dr Liza John and a government pleader met in Kochi on Monday to look into the issue of medical negligence in the death of medico Shamna Tasneem.
A cardiologist and anesthetist from the General Hospital Ernakulam also attended the meeting. The meeting was originally scheduled to be held on Tuesday but was advanced in view of the strike threat by KGMOA, said Dr Kuttappan who added that the final report will be submitted to the City Police Commissioner on Tuesday or Wednesday.
Dr Kuttappan also said that the panel did not consider the request by Shamna’s father to invite specialists from medical colleges to the panel meeting instead of those from General Hospital. “The medical panel can decide on this. All such cases were decided that way. The General Hospital is the only other major hospital in the government sector in the district,” Dr Kuttapan told DC
