Ethiopian woman, stranded for six years in Rajampet, flies back home
KADAPA: A young woman from Ethiopia and her lover came to Rajampet from Kuwait six years ago. The young man, who left her here a few days later, returned to Kuwait where he died of a heart attack.
District SP Karur Karunapati Nagendra Kumar Anburajan stood by the young woman and sent her safely to Addis Ababa, where she arrived on Friday morning.
Kamineni Narayana from Rajampet worked as a driver in Kuwait where he met Emanabhirhan Atsede Setaye (33) and they wanted to get married. On October 15, 2015 he brought her to Rajampet and kept her in a rented house. However, due to financial problems, he went to Kuwait for employment.
Over a period of time, the woman was in a helpless state as her visa had expired. Last year Narayana died of a heart attack in Kuwait. His body was sent to Rajampet and the funeral was performed on March 6 last year.
She approached the foreigners’ registration office (FRO) at the district special branch office. She met Anburajan and pleaded with him to send her to her native place. He directed special branch inspector U. Venkata Kumar to take appropriate action, following which constable G Subbaraju consulted the Ethiopian embassy and kept the girl in the care of Narayana's parents.
Trouble came when she tested Covid positive a few months back. But the district police stood by her. On her recovery, the top cop contacted the Embassy in New Delhi. After being issued an emergency travel document (ETD), she left for Addis Ababa from Mumbai.
On reaching home, Atsede Setaye called up and thanked the SP for his efforts.
