For this kidney donor, humanity is above all

Jyothi said she was encouraged to be a donor by her guru and his wife who donated their kidneys to two people in 2014.

Kochi: Jyothi alias Aryanamika, 37, will give her kidney to ailing Aboobacker in an “attempt to keep humanity above everything else.”

Jyothi, a native of Kuttipuram, will undergo the surgery at a city hospital on Tuesday to give a new lease of life to Aboobacker who hails from a poor family at Tavanur, Malappuram. “Fate has been cruel to him in many ways. For instance, the son of his sister too faced kidney failure and a brother is handicapped. If my little act of kindness will bring him solace, it will make my life worthy,” Jyothi, an agricultural assistant with the Tirunavaya Krishi Bhavan, Malappuram, told DC.

Jyothi, a spinster, has been into social service for quite a long time helping out children with autism and working at elderly homes. She draws inspiration from her late father Kari who “made it a point to help all those in distress despite struggling to find two square meals a day as a headload worker.”

Jyothi is a disciple of ‘Sri Sri Arya Maharshi’ who runs an ashram at Agatiyur near Kunnamkulam in Thrissur. She came to know about Aboobacker through the ashram.

“Nowadays, people are hesitant to donate one of their kidneys even to their relatives. I also want to give out a message to society at large. I was encouraged to be a donor by my guru and his wife who donated their kidneys to save the lives of two people on May 19, 2014,” she added.

“The tests, including cross-match of blood groups, were positive and the medical board too gave the nod following the consent of my family members,” she added.
