Kerala: MCA admission norms relaxed

Many wanted cut-off marks modified

Thiruvananthapuram: The admission supervisory committee headed by Justice J.M. James has issued a fresh order saying that candidates who scored at least one mark in the MCA entrance examinations will be included in the rank list. Earlier, the candidates needed a minimum of 10 marks out of 600 for inclusion in the rank list. With the new order, 45 new candidates were added to the list which consisted of 452 students earlier. Various individuals and institutions had requested the committee to modify the cut-off marks after the declaration of the MCA entrance results.

They wanted that the candidates who attended the entrance examination and got even negative marks should be admitted to the MCA course. However, the committee decided to modify the cut-off marks and allow the candidates who secured positive marks to apply for the MCA admission. Those who secured zero or negative marks will not be admitted to MCA. The relaxation is only for this academic year and will not be a precedent for the future. From the next academic year onwards, the cut-off marks will be re-fixed in consultation with the universities and the representatives of MCA colleges.
