Two Migrant Workers Killed at Srinivasa Setu Construction Site in Tirupati

TIRUPATI: Two workers lost their lives during the construction of Srinivasa Setu in Tirupati late on Wednesday. The victims have been identified as Abhijit Ghosh (20), and Buddha Mandal (44), both hailing from West Bengal and Bihar respectively.

The incident occurred when Abhijit and Buddha were working underneath a cement segment that slipped and fell on them. The accident happened as the cement segment was being moved with a crane at the railway bridge during midnight on Wednesday.

At approximately 11.45 pm, the workers were busy tightening bolts under the segment when it unexpectedly slipped, leading to the fatal outcome. Both Ghosh and Mandal were crushed under the weight of the falling segment.

Upon receiving information about the incident, the police arrived at the scene and collected details. The bodies of the deceased were then shifted to SV Medical Colleges for autopsy. A case has been registered, and investigations are underway to determine the cause of the accident.

City MLA Bhumana Karunakar Reddy and Corporation officials, including Commissioner D. Haritha, also visited the site to oversee relief efforts. MLA Bhumana expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy and assured government support for the families of the victims.

Srinivasa Setu, an elevated corridor project, was scheduled to become operational from July end. The bridge aims to alleviate traffic congestion in Tirupati and provide a direct route for pilgrims bound for Tirumala.
