Shamna's death: Police yet to get post-mortem file

As the postmortem report has not been submitted, the police is yet to refer the case to the medical board in the district

KOCHI: Eight days after the death of Shamna Tasnim, the MBBS student of Kalamassery Government Medical College, the Forensic Department of Alappuzha TD Medical College where the postmortem of her body was done, has not submitted the postmortem report to the investigating Kalamassery police.

As the postmortem report has not been submitted, the police has not referred the case to the medical board in the district headed by the District Medical Officer, to scrutinize whether medical negligence had led to her death. The inordinate delay in the submission of the post-mortem report is causing heartburns among the student community who allege that lack of manpower and medical facilities at the hospital ward was the primary reason for the death of the student.

Kalamassery SI M.K. Sajeev told DC on Tuesday that he had learnt that the forensic department had referred the report to departments like virology before arriving at the final conclusion. “They haven’t yet said when they will submit the report,” he said.

Kalamassery CI Martin C J said that the statement by the forensic surgeon at Alappuzha Medical College to the police after postmortem said that chest infection and the allergy to the injection administered had led to her death. “We are waiting for the report and then the case will be referred to the medical board,” he said.
