Kochi corporation's draft plan has projects for Rs 150 crore

Discussions and approval of the draft proposal will be held during a special session on Friday.

KOCHI: The civic body has presented a draft plan detailing projects worth Rs 150 crore for approval of the council. Development Committee chairperson Gracy Joseph presented the draft proposal at a special session on Tuesday, which discussed the project proposals. As per the plan, the Corporation will spend more funds for the urban transport and housing sectors this financial year, with a fund allocation of Rs 5.30 crore and Rs 3.96 crore, respectively. A total of 172 works which couldn’t be taken up during the previous fiscal have been included as spillover projects in the draft.

A major chunk of funds, to the tune of Rs 2.35 crore, under the urban transport sector will be spent on acquiring land for road projects. Construction of RO-RO jhankar and its jetties would receive financial support of Rs 1 crore each. For the construction of a new boat for the risky Fort Kochi-Vypeen sector, the civic body will spend Rs 84 lakh.

The other major projects included are in healthcare, waste management, housing, agriculture and animal welfare sectors. For the Swachh Bharat Mission, the local body would spend Rs 1.96 crore. The civic body also proposes to spend Rs 75 lakh to procure compact carriers to transport garbage to Brahmapuram waste treatment plant. Discussions and approval of the draft proposal will be held during a special session on Friday.
