Call ,olesters rapasura, says Priest

The temple had organised special prayer last week against rapes.

Warangal: Chilkur Balaji temple priest C.S. Rangarajan said those who treat women as an object of entertainment must be branded ‘Rapasura’ and hacked or hanged. He said the people also shared his opinion.

He was in Warangal on Wednesday to console the parents of the nine-month-old baby who was stolen from her mother's side, raped and and killed last week. The temple had organised special prayer last week against rapes.

Speaking to mediapersons here on Wednesday, he said that the child was “mauled and killed in the hands of a demon”. “We need a society where every citizen takes up the role of Jatayu in the Ramayana, who put up a valiant fight against Ravana to save Sita maata. We have several legislations for the safety of women but they alone cannot come to the rescue of women from perverts. We need to counsel our youth to be saviours and not demons,” he said.

The Chilkur Balaji temple has been organising programmes like Kanya Vandanam in which young girls’ feet were smeared with turmeric in reverence and Raksha Bandhan to create a sense of sisterly feeling among the boys, he said. He later offered prayers at Bhadrakali shrine where he was accorded with temple honours by the priests and authorities.
