Association of Engineers Kerala needs hall back, school to be in soup
Kozhikode: Students of Malaparamba Aided Upper Primary School got a space at the Engineer’s Hall on the Collectorate campus after a long fight since the school was closed down on June 9. But once again they are in a dilemma after its original owners raised apprehensions. The Association of Engineers Kerala says converting the hall into classrooms has hindered their routine activities.
“Since the building is on its campus, people have the wrong impression that it belongs to the district administration," said Ajith, an executive engineer at the irrigation department. "We would like to get the hall back as it affects our meetings there. At the same time, we do not want to leave the students in a dilemma. So we request them to find a better place for the kids."
The students were first shifted to the collectorate conference hall and later here, after few renovations and separations to the structure. “We moved the students here after taking the consent from the engineers at public works department. Hence we would like to have some more time to arrange some other setup,” collector N. Prasanth said. The forum for engineers working in the government sector says they bought the 50-year-old building from the state government paying the prevailing market value.
