Kochi: 48-year-old arrested for murdering wife
Kochi: The Panangad police on Sunday arrested a 48-year old person for allegedly murdering his wife following a family feud on Saturday night. According to police, Vini, 42, of Ramachamkuzhiyil, Nettur was beaten to death by her husband Antony, a carpenter by profession.
According to police, the incident happened around 11 pm on Saturday. The accused thrashed the head of Vini using a wooden hammer and with window frames kept at the house following a verbal fight. Vini sustained deep injuries on the backside of her head that led to death. Soon after incident, Antony had surrendered before the Panangad police. When the police reached the house she was found dead.
“The neighbours and the relatives said that Antony used to have fights with his wife alleging she was a mental patient, everyday. He also used to threaten his father-in-law saying he would kill Vini. On Saturday night also he threatened his father-in-law over mobile phone. They didn’t take this seriously because he used to do this a lot,” an official said.
The couple used to live in the house along with the mother of Antony and their two children. The mother and children were not there at the time as they had gone to the house of Antony's sister. Police said that the neighbors did not hear any kind of sound from their house as there was heavy rain.
Vini was an employee in a private firm at Kaloor for the past several years.
Forensic and scientific experts visited the spot and conducted examination. The accused will be produced before the court on Monday. The body of Vini was handed over to kin after postmortem.
