When KITTS campus sported a Chettinad look

Hosted by Summer Skills Skool Training- 2017', the event was organized to help one explore the rich cuisine and culture of the Chettiar community.

KANNUR: The entire campus of the Kerala Institute of Tourism and Travel Studies (KITTS), Thalassery, mirrored the Tamil village of Chettinad through ‘Chronicles of Chettinad’, an event that was based on the village organized on Friday. Students of four batches, trained as multi-cuisine cooks, organizers of meetings, conferences and event planners, food and beverage service stewards, were hosts of the event. Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Beena C.P, Centre in Charge, KITTS, said that ‘Chronicles of Chettinad’ was the outcome of the training received by the students of the campus. “A meeting was arranged to divide duties among the students and together they coordinated the whole event,” she added.

Hosted by ‘Summer Skills Skool Training- 2017’, the event was organized to help one explore the rich cuisine and culture of the Chettiar community. “The campus was adorned as a typical Chettinad village right from the entrance”, says Diana Thankachan, District Programme Manager of ASAP, Kannur. “The students dressed up in the traditional style of the Chettiar community and they even drew kolam, a ritual in tune with Tamil tradition. Chettinad cuisine for which the place is famous was served in the event and the cultural programmes of the community were also conducted by the students,” she said.

A joint venture of the “Additional Skill Acquisition Programme” (ASAP) and Kerala Institute of Tourism and Travel Studies (KITTS), the project was aimed at providing job oriented training to students after ‘Plus two’ and graduation. Students of the program will complete 150 hours of their course by the end of this month and will enter an internship program where they have to work in multi- cuisine restaurants for another 150 hours.
