Kozhikode: Ramzan moon sighted, holy month begins
Mosques and Muslim households will pray and read the Quran during the month.
KOZHIKODE: The holy month of Ramzan started for Muslims on Friday with the sighting of moon in Kappad coast off Kozhikode. Prominent Muslim clergy had said that the month of fasting would begin on May 27. Panakkad Hyderali Shihab Thangal, Samastha Kerala Jamiyyathul Ulama president Muhammed Jifri Muthukoya Thangal, Samastha general secretary Prof K. Alikutty Musliar among others confirmed the holy month has started. Mosques and Muslim households will pray and read the Quran during the month. Religious speeches are given and philanthropic works are done, especially in Malabar. Iftar meeting would also commence this month.
