CRPF Javan shoots himself while on duty

HYDERABAD: A Central Reserve Protection Force (CRPF) jawan, Davendra Kumar, died by suicide when he was on duty at the house of CRPF IG Mahesh Chandra Ladda at Chikoti Garden, Begumpet, on Thursday. Kumar died on the spot, said Begumpet inspector P. Srinivas.

Davendra Kumar took over at 3 am from another guard, Durga Prasad, and was to be on duty till 6 am, Srinivas said. The suicide came to notice when Davendra Kumar’s reliever, Santosh Kumar, came to take charge and found the body.

One of his friends said Davendra Kumar had appeared to be upset over the past three days after talking with his girlfriend.

Davendra Kumar, a 2021 batch constable of the CRPF 39th Battalion, belonged to Khestha Bazaar of Ballad village in Raipur, Chhattisgarh. He was the only son of Sanu Ram Kumar, a farmer. He is survived by his parents and younger sister.
