Thrissur: Health official suspended after booze row
Thrissur: The corporation has suspended health inspector Sivan from the service on Wednesday following the television channels telecasting visuals of health officials accepting beer, wine and food free of cost from luxury hotel in Thrissur. Mayor Ajitha Jayarajan told reporters that corporation deputy secretary Shobha has been entrusted with probing the incident and to submit a report. This is in addition to the report sought on a telephone conversation between a corporation health official and an hotelier in the wake of the raids conducted by health officials in hotels and other eateries.
The CD of the phone conversation and other documents has been handed over to the Cyber police team by the corporation authorities. “We are hoping that the report will be available within three days. Stringent action will be taken against the guilty after getting the report of the cyber cell”, Mayor said. The mayor however said raids ahead of the Thrissur Pooram festival the food safety officials of the corporation in hotels, restaurants and other eateries will continue. Thousands of people will be converging in Thrissur in connection with the festival and the corporation will have to ensure that stale food is not served to the people. Apart from hotels health officials will examine bakeries, juice shops, milk shops and other eateries. The tanker supplying water to the hotels will also be inspected, she added.
