T P Senkumar to submit Supreme Court's certified order

Meanwhile, legal sources said that there was no justification for the government to delay the implementation of the SC order even after two days.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Putting pressure on the government to reinstate him as State Police Chief, T.P. Senkumar is expected to hand over a certified copy of the Supreme Court order to the government in a day or two and may move contempt proceedings if the government further delays his reinstatement. The state government was delaying reinstatement of Mr Senkumar as state police chief citing delay in getting a certified copy of the SC order on Monday.

According to sources, Mr Senkumar’s representation to Chief Secretary Nalini Netto on Tuesday along with a copy of the SC order to reinstate him was stonewalled on the grounds that a certified copy of the order was lacking. Now when Mr Senkumar delivers a certified copy, the government would have to act lest he should move contempt proceedings over the delay in his reinstatement. Meanwhile, legal sources said that there was no justification for the government to delay the implementation of the SC order even after two days.

“Though there was no time limit prescribed to implement the SC order, it implies that it needs to be implemented forthwith, especially since Mr Senkumar has only got couple of months of service left,” said senior lawyer Kaleeswaram Raj. Sources also said that the government was trying various options of taking off the powers of state police chief, but those may not become successful. Meanwhile, state police chief Loknath Behera issued a statement on Wednesday evening that 96 per cent of Plan fund for the police during the last fiscal was utilized and development activities to the tune of about Rs 46 crore were initiated. The statement which sounded like a farewell speech, also said that emphasis was given for smart policing, scientific investigation, mobile applications, women safety and modernization.
