A top-level meeting convened by DGP Loknath Behra had earlier decided to challenge the High Court decision to grant bail to the accused. According to sources, the petition would be filed before the apex court in the first week of May. Attorney- General Mukul Rohatgi would appear for the state before the apex court, sources said. The state plans to challenge the observations made by the High Court in the bail order of Nehru Group Chairman P. Krishnadas and others.
The police had argued before the High Court that custodial interrogation of the accused was necessary to expose the torture by the accused persons. The first accused (Krishnadas) is the principal conspirator who wants to enforce the so-called discipline in the college by intimidating and mentally or physically harassing the students, the police argued. The apex court had earlier dismissed a plea filed by the state against the bail granted to P. Krishnadas.
