Victim, minister A K Saseendran yet to lodge complaint

It was a honey trap, feels government.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Even as Transport Minister A.K. Saseendran has quit the cabinet owing to the alleged sleaze phone talk with a woman, the government is yet to decide on a probe into the matter. According to sources, since there are allegations that a conspiracy was hatched against the minister, the government may initiate a probe. The victim has not complained to the police and they are waiting for the government orders for further action. Sources at the chief minister’s office said that the government was weighing its options.

Though it was a honey-trap, it is felt that a minister should not have fallen into it. Police sources said that as per norms, even if the victim in a crime does not file a complaint, anyone privy to the crime could file a petition and the police would be obliged to act upon it. In the allegation against Mr Saseendran also, it is not necessary for the victim to file a petition, sources said. Though the police are not obliged to conduct a suo motu probe, there was a precedent of the previous LDF government led by V.S. Achuthanandan initiating a re-investigation into the ice cream parlour case on the basis of allegations raised by K.A. Rauf at a press conference.
