Pending works delay opening of new bus station in Khammam

The inauguration date will be some other day but in March as some works are yet to be completed

KHAMMAM: The inauguration of a new bus station on Nagarjunasagar project lands in the bypass road here is likely to be delayed as many works remain incomplete.

Although the government wanted to make it operational on March 1, officials have sought more time to complete the remaining works like flooring, fixing of tiles, painting, toilets and ceiling. Even the approach road to the bypass road is yet to be laid.

RTC Khammam regional manager P Soloman said, “The inauguration date will be some other day but in March. We had to reschedule because some works are to be completed.”

Moreover, the inauguration programme will be confined to officials as no Minister or MLA can be involved because of the MLC graduates election code. It is learnt that the inauguration is likely to be in the third week of March as suggested by the Minister for Transport, Puvvada Ajay Kumar. The election would have been completed by then.

Elections to Khammam Municipal Corporation (KMC) are expected to be held in April. Ajay Kumar wants to take credit for the bus station and show it as his achievement in order to impress the KMC electorate.

As for the bus station, the premises will have 30 platforms, 13 shopping complexes, and a waiting room, VIP retiring room, food court, a spacious parking lot and a separate place for cargo services.
