Over 7,800 turn up for Soukhyam
KOCHI: Over 7800 patients attended the Soukhyam super specialty medical camp organised by Hibi Eden MLA at the Rajiv Gandhi Indoor Stadium on Sunday. It was inaugurated by actor Dulquer Salman at a function in which Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala was the chief guest. Though the event was organised for those belonging to Ernakulam Assembly constituency which Hibi represents, people drawn from as far as Wayanad came to attend it knowing about the care given through the previous editions of Soukhyam.
A total of 300 doctors and 300 nurses and 100 technicians drawn from 27 hospitals treated the patients. Cancer detection was done for 110 persons at the teleoncology unit of the Malabar Cancer Care Society, Kannur. Most of the cases were of uterine cancer. The mobile mammogram unit and thermo mammogram unit of Dr V.P. Gangadharan were present in the camp and a mammogram was done on 30 persons. Most of the patients came to the cardiology, orthopedic and ophthalmology wings. There was a special counter for pediatrics. Pediatric cardiology, neurology and gastroenterology wings too were present at the camp.
The mobile dental unit and ECG unit of Amrita Hospital and the mobile blood testing unit of Malabar Gold were present at the camp. A total of 102 persons needed MRIs while 176 persons needed CT scans. Starkey Hearing Foundation in association with LF Hospital, Angamaly, conducted a hearing test for 126 persons. A total of 1000 persons needed aftercare, said Hibi. Cochin Shipyard Limited was the chief sponsor of the event. BPCL Kochi, Federal Bank and Rotary District 3201 were co-sponsors.
