Operation Swasthi spreads message of care
KOZHIKODE: Operation Swasthi, an initiative of the Kozhikode city police and Santhwanam Charitable Trust could locate 54 people abandoned and wandering the streets. Of them, four were sent back to their families, and others were taken to different shelters, including Government Mental Health Centre (GMHC). “Three elderly people were taken to GMHC on Sunday, after producing them before the chief judicial magistrate. The rest were also taken to shelter homes in the city," said the trust chairman P.V. Sudheer.
"The people who were rehabilitated in the last weeks were also visited, and they were all found happy. The search by the police to relocate them back to their families is on.” The people were taken to the premises of Tali Zamorins Higher Secondary School and were given a proper bath and dressed up by the cops and volunteers, before taking them for the legal procedures. First of the ‘Care’ session was held on January 29 second on February 11.
Sunday was the third session in the series, said Mr Sudheer. In the first session, people found wandering in and around the new bus stand and the Palayam bus stand were brought, and in the second leg, those found near Link Road and Jail Road were taken to the shelter homes. On Sunday, people around Kallayi were brought by ‘Swasthi’, to be relocated for good.
