Kerala: Rural students get international exposure
KALPETTA: Pupils of two rural UP schools in the state received a chance to interact with students of a school in Berlin through Skype during an interactive workshop, thanks to Academic Forum for Research and Communication (AFRC) engaged in providing all-round exposure to government schools here through novel interventions. The workshop covered three schools at a time - Wedding Primary school, Berlin, Germany, HIMUP School, Kalpetta and Muzhappilangad UP School, Muzhappilangad, Kannur.
The international interactive workshop was proved a success with the active support of Radijojo global children’s radio network, Germany, said Anil Image of AFRC. Held over three days, the focus of the first day was learning the countries of each other, he said. “Thus children of Germany learned about our nation and the students here learned about Germany," said Laila Saein, one of the coordinators.
“The children exchanged greetings through email. They also have many questions to share about respective countries. They were mostly interested in knowing about education, agriculture, environmental issues and developmental issues." On the final day, children of Wedding Primary school and HIMUP school met each other via Skype. The interaction was lively. The workshop was based on UN sustainable development goals. Other program coordinators were Nicole Wilden, Riyas Narikkuni, Shadish Kavil and Ali K Wayanad.
