Jishnu Pranoy's parents issue 'ultimatum'

Arrest accused Tuesday or face strike'.

KOZHIKODE: The parents of engineering college student Jishnu Pranoy, who was found hanging in the hostel room of Nehru College of Engineering, Pambadi, has asked the state government to immediately arrest the accused, including P. Krishnadas, chairman, Nehru Group of Educational Institutions. Jishnu’s mother Mahija and father P.K. Ashokan told reporters here on Sunday that if the government failed to arrest them Tuesday, the family along with friends and relatives would launch an indefinite hunger strike in front of the state secretariat.

“We never complained against the government so far but it is too late for the arrest. The government has acted swiftly in the actor’s abduction case,” Mahija said. “The police should slap murder charges on Krishnadas and others. The students would then come out with more evidence against the accused,” she added. Referring to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s comment that he would soon visit the house of Jishnu, Mahija said, “visiting us is good.

But more important is the arrest of the accused. If he intends to visit us, it should be after the arrest,” she added. Mahija had sent an open letter to Mr Pinarayi Vijayan over his failure to visit the family. “The chief minister should wake up and ensure justice for my son,” she added. “Krishnadas might have seen a lot of money, but he is ignorant about the loss suffered by a mother,” she said. Mr Ashokan said he suspected a collusion between the police and the authorities to delay the investigation. Krishnadas, the prime accused, college principal Dr N.K. Sakthivel, college invigilator C.P. Praveen, PRO Sanjith Viswanathan and faculty member Dipin are the accused in the case. Though police had slapped non-bailable charges, all of them are absconding.
