Hyderabad: Bus driver dies behind wheel, passengers safe
Hyderabad: Thirty-one passengers aboard a Hyderabad-bound RTC bus escaped unhurt when the driver collapsed due to a heart attack on the busy NH 65 in Nalgonda district in the early hours of Sunday. This is the third such incident in Telangana.
Police said the bus (AP 29Z 2113) belonging to the Khammam depot started from Khammam at around 1.30 am with 55-year-old Ganji Saidulu at the wheel.
The bus was passing through the Nakrekal bypass and the passengers were asleep.
Suddenly the bus pulled towards the right and after climbing a road divider, came to a halt. Passengers rushed to the driver and found that he had collapsed. One of the passengers who was a doctor checked him and found that he was dead.
“We thought that we are dead, but when we saw the driver, we realised that he had sacrificed his life for us,” one of the passengers, a techie working for an MNC said. The RTC arranged another bus for the passengers. Police registered a case of suspicious death. Saidulu is survived by his wife and two sons.
