First of its kind in AP, Dandi March statues unveiled in Guntur

Vijayawada: For the first time in Andhra Pradesh, Dandi March statues hailing Mahatma Gandhi’s Dandi movement were installed in Guntur, on the occasion of Republic Day on Thursday.

Municipal administration minister A. Suresh with adviser to state government Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy unveiled the statues installed by the Guntur Municipal Corporation at Y Junction.

Reddy said that the Dandi March was important in the struggle for Freedom and Mahatma Gandhi organised the Dandi March by uniting everyone regardless of their caste and religion to win Freedom through non-violence.

He said the statues of the Dandi March would tell the heroic story of the freedom struggle to future generations.

Minister Suresh said Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy was working for a clean Andhra Pradesh by following the path shown by Mahatma Gandhi. “Efforts are being made for the comprehensive development of towns and cities in the state. “All our cities will be beautified in the context of the establishment of Three Capitals.”

Guntur Mayor K.S.M. Naidu, district collector Venugopala Reddy, commissioner Kirti Chekuri, Urban SP Arif Hafeez, MLCs Lella Appireddy, D.M. Varaprasad and Lakshmana Rao, MLAs Mohammed Mustafa, Maddali Giridhar and Kilari Roshaiah, Market Yard chairman Chandragiri Yesuratnam, deputy mayors VB Vajrababu and Sheikh Sajila, corporators and officials participated in the event.
