Navy trains AP marine police of eight coastal districts

Training was held for 15 marine police personnel from 8 coastal districts of AP

VISAKHAPATNAM: Eastern Naval Command, as part of its coastal security initiatives, organised its maiden coastal security training capsule for 15 marine police personnel from eight coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh.

The training was held at Sagar Prahari Bal in Visakhapatnam from December 20 to December 24. It included classroom instructions on seamanship, navigation, communication, damage control and fire fighting.

Navy also organised practical training classes onboard a fast interceptor craft involving harbour familiarisation, coastal navigation and patrol, method for reporting of contacts and other challenging procedures.

On completion of the training, naval in-charge officer of Andhra Pradesh Commodore M.G. Raju distributed certificates to marine police personnel and interacted with them.

Marine police are required to patrol up to 12 nautical miles of the sea from coast.

This ensures that an additional layer of security is in place at the level of respective coastal states. A naval officer said the training will enable marine police personnel to enhance their operational efficiency.

Last year, AP marine police organised a joint patrol with the Indian Coast Guard.
