Devout start relinquishing Bhavani Deeksha at Durga Temple
VIJAYAWADA: Devout from all over AP have started relinquishing their Bhavani Deekshas from Saturday. The formal giving up of the deeksha taken annually will continue till December 29.
Nearly 4-5 lakh Bhavani devotees are expected to reach the Kanaka Durga Temple in Vijayawada from throughout the state, temple trust board chairman P. Somi Naidu said.
Vijayawada Municipal Corporation, police, revenue and other departments are coordinating in organising the religious rituals while adhering to all Covid-19 protocols.
VMC commissioner Prasanna Venkatesh said as many as 190 temporary toilets have been set up at various places for convenience of devotees. Staff have also been deployed to ensure that cleanliness of toilets is ensured round the clock.
Arrangements have been made for distribution of freshwater packets. Cloakrooms have been set up at headquarters of the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation, Rajiv Gandhi Park, Ratham Centre and Headwater Works for devotees coming from other parts of AP.
Prasanna Venkatesh said a 24-hour control room with phone number 8181960909 has been set up for monitoring the situation and helping devotees. They can call up this number and their complaints will be attended to on a war footing, he added.
