Shun old style', CM Pinarayi Vijayan tells cops

Of the 296 personnel passed out, 113 are from KAP and 183 Malabar Special Police.

KANNUR: Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan has cautioned cops against following the "old style of functioning". Speaking after receiving salute at the passing out parade of Kerala Armed Police (KAP) fourth battalion here on Saturday, he said such isolated incidents could not recur. “The force should act in tandem with the democratic setup. There are a lot of people living alone in homes, and they need help," he said.

"Such cases should constantly be followed and ensured that police was at a call’s distance for any help. Majority of cops are upright. But a small fraction act otherwise.” He advised them to implement Janamaithri programme more efficiently. “It is not meant to lie on paper," he said. "Troublemakers come to the police radars when you strengthen the bond with the people,” he said.

Of the 296 personnel passed out, 113 are from KAP and 183 Malabar Special Police. They included six BTech degree holders, three B.Ed holders, 33 postgraduates and 137 graduates. Ports minister Ramachandran Kadannappally, K.K. Ragesh MP, MLAs James Mathew and T.V. Rajesh, district panchayat president K.V. Sumesh, DGP Loknath Behera, ADGP Sudesh Kumar, DIG K. Shafin Ahmed, KAP commandant Sanjay Kumar Gurudin and others were present.
