Chennai: In scenes reminiscent of action movies, two cars was driven in a haphazard manner with persons in one of the vehicles hurling country bombs at the other vehicle near railway station road in Kancheepuram, much to the horror of the public on Saturday.
The person at the receiving end was Dinesh (35), an aide of slain don Sridhar. Dinesh used to be the personal driver of Sridhar, police sources said. Around 3 pm, Dinesh was driving his SUV towards Kancheepuram town from the railway station road when the incident happened.
Three men in the black SUV had trailed Dinesh's car and intercepted his vehicle on Kancheepur am-Vaiyaoor road and hurled the country bombs at the vehicle.
The windshield and the window panes were damaged and Dinesh made evasive manoeuvres to escape the attack.
One of the country bombs exploded outside an eatery and the shrapnel from the bomb injured 12-year-old R. Dhakshinamoorthy sitting outside, police sources said. According to locals, Dinesh too hurled a bomb in defence.
“For two-three minutes, the cars were driven haphazardly creating panic among the public,” said a police officer. Dinesh, in an effort to escape from the gang, sped his vehicle and drove into the premises of Chinna Kancheepuram police station. Based on a complaint from Dinesh, a case has been registered and further investigations are on. Police sources said that one of the persons in the other car was Dhanikachalam, also a former aide of the slain don.
