BJP failed to realise women's reservation bill: Sushmita Dev

All India Mahila Congress vice-president and State Mahila Congress president Bindu Krishna also accompanied her.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: All India Mahila Congress president Sushmita Dev MP has accused the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi of running away from implementing the Women's Reservation Bill. Talking to reporters at Indira Bhavan here on Saturday, she said, though the Rajya Sabha had passed the bill during the previous UPA regime, the Lok Sabha was yet to clear it. Even though Congress president Sonia Gandhi had written to the Prime Minister to speed up the process, he had not responded yet.

"It should be recalled that BJP had promised 33 percent reservation for women in its manifesto. The Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Scheme (BBBPS) is a flagship programme run by the Union government to ensure the survival, protection and education of the girl child. But unfortunately, they are doing nothing for the women to come to the forefront," said Ms Dev, 45, who was recently chosen as the best Parliamentarian. All India Mahila Congress vice-president and State Mahila Congress president Bindu Krishna also accompanied her. They later joined Ramesh Chennithala's Padayorukkam that entered Pathanamthitta district Saturday.
