MP CM to spend Rs 100 cr to mark 11 years in office: Congress
Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Congress on Saturday alleged that Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan was going to spend Rs 100 crore to celebrate his completion of 11 years in office, at a time when the state owed Rs 1.50 lakh crore to creditors.
Chouhan will complete 11 years as Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister on Monday.
"On completing 11 years in office, you are organising a mega event at Jambori Maidan (on December 4) here. Seven lakh people are being brought to the venue and will be served meals twice," state Congress chief Arun Yadav said in a letter to the chief minister today.
"The extravaganza is going to be telecast at every district headquarters," he said, alleging that it would cost Rs 100 crore to the exchequer.
Madhya Pradesh has a debt of Rs 1.50 lakh crore, the Congress leader pointed out while wondering that keeping this in mind, why the Jambori Maidan event could not be celebrated in a simple manner.
The money should rather be used to provide a reprieve to the rural population, farmers and commoners who have been "hit hard by the demonetisation", the letter said.
