Call for CBI probe into Perumbavoor rape-murder

Though the FIR was seen as being registered on April 28, 2016 at 9 pm, it was forwarded to the jurisdictional Magistrate only on April 30.

Thiruvananthapuram: The father of the Perumbavoor rape case victim has moved the Kerala High Court seeking a CBI probe into the case. The victim's father argued that the charge sheet suffered from various flaws and would help the accused get an easy acquittal. Though the FIR was seen as being registered on April 28, 2016 at 9 pm, it was forwarded to the jurisdictional Magistrate only on April 30.

A knife which was used for the crime, was seized on the 30th and it was produced before the court only on May 4 to assist the accused to take the plea that it was tampered with. The offence and manner in which the crime was committed was a very serious one which shocked the entire nation except the investigators. No efforts were made to rush to the scene, guard it, to conduct an investigation in a professional manner to instill confidence in the minds of the public.

He said, that the scene was not guarded till April 4 and even the State Police Complaints Authority had criticized this willful omission and initiated action. “There is a serious lapse in not reporting the time of death in the postmortem report,” he said. If the trial was conducted based on the final report, it would lead to gross miscarriage of justice not only to the victim but also to the entire society, as it would only help the accused get an easy acquittal. “The investigation has provided not loopholes but a royal path to the accused to get an easy acquittal”, the victim’s father submitted.
