Hyderabad: Osmania University is gearing up for its 83rd Convocation scheduled to take place on October 31 in the presence of Telangana state Governor and chancellor Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan.
Conferring of an honorary doctorate on Shantanu Narayen, chief executive officer of Adobe Inc., USA will be the highlight of the event. Narayen will not only receive this honour but will also serve as the chief guest and will deliver the convocation address. Notably, this will mark the 49th time that the university has bestowed such an honour.
A total of 57 gold medals will be awarded during the convocation, recognising the outstanding achievements of 45 candidates, 39 of who are women candidates, reflecting the dedication and excellence of women in academia. This year's gold medal recipients have successfully completed their academic pursuits between July 2021 and July 2022. However, Ph.D. degrees awarded from August 6, 2022, to October 10, 2023, will also be considered in the ceremony.
The university said it will also honour its undergraduate gold medalists, but this will be held at their respective colleges after the main convocation event. Degree certificates for candidates who have completed PG, UG, Diploma, and M. Phil programs in regular mode within the university and its affiliated or autonomous colleges will be sent to the recipients via post. Similarly, candidates who have pursued their studies through the Professor R Ram Reddy Centre for Distance Education (PGRRCDE) can expect their certificates through postal services.
