Man arrested for extortion in Hyderabad
Hyderabad: A 32-year-old offender from East Godavari district, who impersonated himself as a cop and news channel reporter, cheated many victims under the pretext of arranging favours from government agencies. He was arrested by the Hyderabad police on Wednesday.
The suspect was identified as Manda Rajesh who was earlier involved in seven cheating cases. In the present case, he posed as a police officer and assured the victims of closing cases against them registered at the Moinabad police station and collected Rs 89 lakh.
In another case, he collected Rs 30 lakh from one Shaik Mahmood for creating a fake gun licence in the name of Shaik Mahmood. A cheating case was registered at Shahinayath Gunj police station and he was arrested on Wednesday.
“We have recovered four cars, 130 grams of gold, Rs 36 lakh cash, nine mobiles, two wristwatches, mike with the logo of a news channel and fake gun licence documents from him. He was produced in the court,” said Mr A. Venkateswar Rao, DCP, west zone.
His criminal history dates back to 2004 when he cheated farmers with loans from Mother Teresa Trust in Bhongir rural area. In 2008, he cheated Parvinder Singh and issued false cheques and collected Rs 3 lakh.
In 2009, he gave an advertisement in a daily and issued a fake cheque to a seller. Cases are registered against him at Market, Jubilee Hills, Tappa Chab-utra, and Vanast-halipuram stations.
