HYDERABAD: Eight victims of Thursday's stampede at Gymkhana Ground were beaming when they were escorted to the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium (RGICS) at Uppal for the India-Australia T20 match on Sunday.
Sports minister V. Srinivas Goud, who invited them to his office in Ravindra Bharathi, enquired about their well-being. Constable D. Naveena who had saved the Gymkhana sweeper’s life by CPR was also given special tickets. He praised her presence of mind and presented a recommendation letter for her promotion.
Speaking on the occasion, Goud said, “The incident is being investigated and strict action will be taken against all those found guilty.”
The injured persons expressed delight at the special arrangements made for them.
Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Aliya, who was accompanied by her mother, said, “I am happy that I am finally getting a chance to watch the match, especially my favorite Virat Kohli for whom I have made a festoon. All my pain seems to have subsided”.
Constable Naveena expressed her happiness at the recognition by the government and the overwhelming reactions she was receiving from everywhere. She said, “Three days ago, I was just an ordinary person and now so many people know me. My family in Karimnagar and friends are very proud of me. I feel more responsible for my duty.”
Ranjitha who was accompanied by her daughter and one-year-old grandson was tearful and grateful that she was alive. “I got a fresh lease of life that day. I am thankful to the police who saved me. I will continue my job at Gymkhana with the dedication of the past 12 years”.
