Travancore Devaswom Board to take final call on priest today

TDB chief Prayar Gopalakrishnan said there would be a final decision on Tuesday, but refused to drop any hints.

ALAPPUZHA: Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) will meet on Tuesday to decide on the posting of a non-Brahmin priest to Chettikulangara temple, which could be in favour S. Sudhikumar. TDB chief Prayar Gopalakrishnan said there would be a final decision on Tuesday, but refused to drop any hints. He had made several flip-flops after the TDB cancelled the non-Brahmin's appointment as keezhshaanti there. The other day at Acharya Sadassu organised as part of the Yoga Kshema Sabha meet in the state capital had said the temple tradition existing for several centuries should be preserved in its original form.

This is the third Board meeting on the matter. Though on Sept 18 it decided to hear Mr Sudhikumar out, the board had not met. Instead, he was asked to give his willingness in writing to the Devaswom Board Secretary. The board is called on Tuesday to decide on that letter. Ajay Tharayil, a member, said it would have top priority. "Mr Sudhikumar’s cause will get the support of two members on the three-member board. So there would be a decision in his favour," he said. Meanwhile, many Hindu outfits including Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Hindu Aikya Vedi, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, Kerala Pulaya Maha Sabha (KPMS) Sree Narayana Dharma Paropalana (SNDP) Yogam and Vaikunda Swamy Dharma Pracharana Sabha. (VSDP) have backed him.
