Solar probe commission to file report to CM Pinarayi Vijayan today
Kochi: The Justice G. Sivarajan commission which inquired into the solar scam is scheduled to submit its report to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan at the secretariat on Tuesday, bringing to an end a four year-long inquiry process and potentially setting off another bout of political fisticuffs. The single-man commission, formed on October 28, 2013 by then UDF government on the demand of the opposition LDF which staged a siege of the state secretariat, was inquiring into allegations that dubious investors led by Sarita S. Nair and Biju Radhakrishnan misused their alleged proximity to senior political leaders including then chief minister Oommen Chandy to dupe investors.
The names of others members of the Chandy ministry and several MLAs and MPs were also linked to the scam. The tenure of the commission, which was extended several times, is set to end on Wednesday. While the commission has made no official confirmation of the submission of the report, sources said Justice Sivarajan has taken an appointment of the chief minister in Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday. The commission conducted 353 sittings, examined 214 witnesses and examined 972 documents as part of the inquiry. Apart from Mr Chandy, it examined several senior leaders including V.S. Achutahnandan and several MLAs and MPs. Interestingly, the chief minister, who was then CPM state secretary, had also deposed before the commission.
