Squads to ensure fair exams: Calicut University
KOZHIKODE: Tightening its grip over the conduct of examinations in self-financing colleges, Calicut University has decided to form district-level squads in all five districts under the jurisdiction of the varsity. The squads, which will contain regular college teachers, will be constituted during the various terms of examinations and also conduct inspections in institutions. It is learnt that the move is to ensure transparency and accountability in the examinations. Varsities like University of Kerala already have established such a system a long time back.
It is learnt that the move came after complaints that many self-financing colleges under the varsity were being lenient towards students who conduct malpractices. “After many self-financing colleges got their representative in to the Senate and the Syndicate, there has been a lenient attitude in cases of malpractices in which the institution concerned pay fine and continue the business. We have observed that the standard of the conduct of examinations in such colleges have come down drastically. Squads can really help maintain the quality of the examinations,” said a Syndicate member.
Meanwhile the examinations standing committee has decided to convene a comprehensive meeting of various branch heads on October 14 to discuss the effective implementation of digitisation in the Pareeksha Bhavan and also to improve the services given to the students. The University will also convene a meeting of college teachers to discuss better conduct of examinations later.
