Jayalalithaa to be discharged in a few days: Doctors

The Chief Minister was admitted to the Apollo Hospitals on Greams Road on Thursday with fever and dehydration.

Chennai: Doctors attending on Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa have ruled out shifting her abroad for treatment, maintaining that she was responding well to their treatment and was on a normal diet.

Ms Jayalalithaa “continues to get better” and could be discharged “in a few days”, Subbiah Vishwanathan, Chief Operating Officer, Apollo Hospitals, said at a press conference on convened Sunday evening, to brief about the Chief Minister’s health.

Detailing the elaborate testing and treatment for the Chief Minister since admission, Mr. Vishwanathan said, “There have been rumours and conjectures circulated falsely in the social media about Madam’s health condition, stating that she will be taken abroad for treatment. These are totally false and baseless.

There is no question of taking the Chief Minister abroad for treatment, as there is no necessity at all for this.” Flanked by Health Minister C Vijaya Bhaskar, Health Secretary J Radhakrishnan and senior doctors of the Apollo Hospital, the hospital spokesperson said Ms Jayalalithaa is responding well to the treatment.

The Chief Minister was admitted to the Apollo Hospitals on Greams Road on Thursday with fever and dehydration. Under doctors’ observation since admission, she resumed regular diet the very next day on Friday.

Noting that necessary medications are being administered as required, the hospital said necessary investigations and tests are being done to prevent recurrence of fever as per standard medical protocol.

“The Chief Minister is responding well to the treatment and continues to get better. As part of the ongoing recuperation, the Chief Minister has been advised few more days of rest. The Chief Minister will be discharged from the hospital in a few days and will soon resume her normal official duties,” Mr Vishwanathan said.

As AIADMK cadres continued to throng Greams road, party spokeswoman C.R. Saraswathi said on Sunday that the Chief Minister was doing “very well” and they are all “very happy” about that. “Amma is very well. She is doing fine and we all are happy,” Ms Saraswathi said, adding that doctors want her to take rest for a few more days.
