Durgam Cheruvu cable-bridge to have floating fountains soon

HYDERABAD: The HMDA said it plans to build two floating fountains to enhance the tourist appeal of the Durgam Cheruvu cable-stayed bridge. The Hyderabad Growth Corridor Limited (HGCL), a wing of the HMDA, will pay `8.3 crore for the purpose.

Constructed as part of Strategic Road Development Plan (SRDP), the 435-metre bridge helps decongest traffic towards Hitec City, reduces commute time from Jubilee Hills to Madhapur from 30 minutes to about 10, besides cutting down the distance from MindSpace to Jubilee Hills by two kilometres.

The bridge was inaugurated by minister K.T. Rama Rao on September 25, 2020, and has become an instant hit with tourists, both locals and those from other cities. On weekends, traffic is suspended on the bridge and musical and cultural programmes are organised for tourists.

A senior HMDA official told Deccan Chronicle that each floating fountains wold be 40mx10m. He said the HGCL and floated tenders to the tune of `8.03 crore. He said the shortlisted private firm should complete the project in four months and operate and maintain it for three years.
