KOCHI: Praveen Goyal, director (systems) of Kochi Metro Rail Limited, launched the underfloor wheel lathe (UFWL) machine at coach maintenance depot at Muttom on Thursday. The UFWL is an essential tool for metro operators and is used for machining of the steel wheels on the coaches to correct the wheel profiles.
The correctness of the wheel profile will ensure safe running. The machine is also used to optimise the wheel profile and rail wheel interaction and minimise the wheel and track wear of the metro. M/s HYT Pune has supplied and installed the machine. Officials of KMRL and Delhi Metro Rail Corporation were present during the ceremony.
