Self-financing medical colleges defy Kerala govt order
Thiruvananthapuram: The managements of self-financing medical colleges have started admission procedures on their own defying the state government order on conducting a common counselling process for all the seats. The managements have issued advertisements in vernacular dailies inviting applications for admissions. Mr Anilkumar Vallil, secretary, Kerala Private Medical College Management Association (KPMCA), told this paper that the individual medical colleges would conduct their own admissions for all seats.
The association was not conducting any common counselling, Mr Vallil said. Earlier, four medical colleges under the Kerala Christian Professional College Management Federation had also initiated steps to conduct their own admissions. Meanwhile, the admission supervisory committee headed by Justice J.M. James has rejected the prospectus for MBBS 2016-17 of some colleges.
Justice James said that the prospectus was in violation of the committee's order that the government would conduct a common counselling process. The managements had earlier clarified that if the government didn't withdraw its decision, they would start admissions. Meanwhile, the commissioner for entrance examination has also started admission process on the lines of the government decision to take over all seats.
