AIG hospital launches surgical training on wheels'

HYDERABAD: AIG Hospitals on Monday launched a state-of-the-art vehicle under its ‘Surgical Training on Wheels’ initiative in collaboration with Johnson & Johnson.

The vehicle is equipped with the latest technology for surgical training and will undertake a 100-day journey to cover 28 government and private medical institutions across 14 cities in the four South Indian states.

Speaking during the flagging off of the vehicle, Dr D. Nageshwar Reddy, Chairman, AIG Hospitals, said, “AIG has always been at the forefront of medical training. With this new initiative, our objective is to train practicing surgeons at their doorstep even in rural areas. They will get expert tips and tricks from the AIG faculty and hands-on experience in the vehicle on animal tissue models. Over 100 days, we aim to train over 2,000 surgeons”.

The vehicle is designed to cater the growing needs of the surgical community and will be used to train general, gastrointestinal, orthopaedic, cancer and cardiac surgeons, among others.

Dr G.V. Rao, Director & Chief of Surgery, AIG Hospitals, said that the vehicle was one of its kind, designed by the Johnson & Johnson Global team, with 16 stations. Eight of the stations would be used for wet-lab training for basic procedures like suturing to advance anastomosis and the other eight for simulation training where surgeons can get an immersive experience of complex surgical procedures, while maintaining a completely sterile environment.
