Kurukshetra to hit 3,000 screens in 3D

Previously, the blockbuster movie KGF starring Yash was released in 2,400 screens worldwide in multiple languages.

Bengaluru: In a series of firsts for Kannada film industry, the first ever mythological drama to be made in India in 3D - Munirathna Kurukshetra, is set to break records by becoming the biggest ever Kannada movie to be released in 3,000 screens worldwide.

The movie, which stars Ambareesh, Darshan, Ravichandran, Arjun Sarja, Nikhil Kumaraswamy, Shashi Kumar, and several others will be releasing on August 9 instead of August 2, as the censor clearance for Hindi version is pending.

The filmmakers have told Deccan Chronicle that the movie which is simultaneously being released in Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Hindi will hit the screens on August 9.

Actor Ambareesh will be seen in the role of mythological character – Bheeshma, while Darshan will portray the role of Dhuryodhana and Nikhil Kumaraswamy, son of caretaker Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy as Abhimanyu in the movie directed by Naganna.

Nagar MLA Munirathna, one of the rebel MLAs who is responsible in toppling the coalition government, Kurukshetra, has planned for release in 400 screens in Kannada, 500 in Telugu, 300 in Tamil, 150 in Malayalam, 1,300 in Hindi and around 350 overseas.

Yathish Rockline Venkatesh who is facilitating the biggest release, said, "We cannot go without publicity. The publicity in Kannada, Telugu and Tamil is in full swing. We had an event in Hyderabad on Tuesday and there will be events in Malayalam and Tamil in the next few days. But since the censor certification was delayed in Hindi, we were on the back foot. The film is releasing in close to 1,500 screens in Hindi and we have to reach to the maximum audience. We are seeing this one week postponement as an opportunity. We can concentrate on publicity for one more week."

Mandya MP Sumalatha Ambareesh has expressed her joy, saying that she cannot wait to see her late husband on the big screen.
