Medical college scam: BJP men need party nod to appear for probe
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: BJP leaders the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) summoned in connection with the medical college scam had informed the agency that they would appear only if their party permits. VACB had sent notices to K. P. Sreesan and A, K. Nazeer, who conducted an internal probe over the scam. SR Medical College and Research Centre owner and Bharat Dharma Jana Sena leader R. Shaji, who allegedly paid the bribe, offered to give evidence for payments by Wednesday.
Mr Shaji told the special investigation unit led by SP K. Jayakumar on Tuesday that he paid the bribe to Delhi-based power-broker Satish Nair and the negotiations were made by BJP co-operative cell convener R. S. Vinod. He also said he had evidence of bank transactions. Meanwhile, the VACB see bleak chances of registering a case as no public servant was involved, bringing the case under its purview. Otherwise, it is only a case of cheating.
