Kerala: Document writers to stage demo tomorrow
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A section of document writers will stage a demonstration in front of the secretariat on Wednesday demanding the withdrawal of the government decision to allow individuals to prepare and register deeds and agreements with sub-registrars. The document writers alleged that the decision was aimed at helping real estate mafias and builders.
Addressing a press conference here on Monday, All- Kerala Document Writers and Scribes Association said that the decision posed a threat to the livelihood of about 50,000 persons working in the sector. Alleging that the move was a fallout of the restrictions imposed on allowing the licences of document writers to those retiring from sub-registrar offices, he said that the retired hands were trying to make advantage of the fresh order by helping those who want to register deeds by themselves.
When asked about the alleged exorbitant fees charged by document writers even as the government prescribed the maximum fee of Rs 7,500, the association leaders said that so far no one had given any formal complaints in this regard.
